How Members of the Connecticut Supreme Court are Selected:
Appointment, Legislative Confirmation
A shortlist of potential justices are submitted by the Connecticut Judicial Selection Commission to the governor. The Judicial Selection Commission consists of six members appointed by the governor and another six appointed by state legislature leaders. The governor appoints a justice from this shortlist and appointees must then be confirmed by a majority vote of the Connecticut General Assembly. Once confirmed, justices serve an eight year term. Justices must be re-nominated by the governor and re-approved by the General Assembly to remain on the court. Interim appointments by the governor also require legislative confirmation.
