How Members of the Georgia Supreme Court are Selected:

Nonpartisan Election

Justices are selected by nonpartisan election to six-year terms, and must run for re-election if they wish to retain their seats. Interim selections to fill vacancies that occur between elections are made by governor appointment. A judicial nominating commission, appointed by the governor, screens candidates and offers recommendations for possible interim vacancies, but the governor is not bound by the list they prepare.
