How Members of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court are Selected:

Appointment, Legislative Confirmation

The governor appoints justices, who must then be confirmed by the Maine State Senate to seven-year terms. Appointments are informed, but not bound, by recommendations from the governor-appointed Judicial Nominations Advisory Committee. To remain on the court, justices must be reappointed by the governor and reconfirmed by the state senate.
