How Members of the South Carolina Supreme Court are Selected:

Legislative Election

Justice are selected by a majority vote of the South Carolina Legislature and nominated for consideration by the South Carolina Judicial Merit Selection Commission. Members of the Selection Commission are appointed by state house and senate leadership. If elected, a justice serves a 10-year term and must be re-elected by the legislature to remain on the court.
