How Members of the Vermont Supreme Court are Selected:
Appointment, Legislative Retention
The governor appoints justices from a list prepared by the Judicial Nominating Board, which is comprised of 11 members selected by the governor, state bar association, and the state house and senate. Appointed justices must then be confirmed by the state senate to six-year terms. To remain on the court, justices are retained by a majority General Assembly vote.
